EFO Update

Whole Foods Oakville Slated for EFO Installation

Fiberstars Efficient Fiber Optics continues to pave the way to energy savings and reduced maintenance. WHOLE FOODS have used EFO extensively in their US operations and are continuing to do so in Canada. The Oakville, Ontario location is to be fitted with several “cloud” fixtures later this month. The fixtures will be suspended over various fresh produce areas providing up to 200fc on the merchandise with no harmful UV or IR. This allows for contrast ratios of up to 5:1 in some areas. Now that’s merchandising through lighting! EFO by Fiberstars can save as much as 80% on energy costs by replacing up to 8 X 50 watt MR 16 lamps with one 68 watt illuminator and 8 fiber tails with adjustable beam fixtures.

Magic Lite to feature EFO at CFIG show October 24th and 25th at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Come see EFO in action at the Grocery Innovations Canada 2005 trade show. EFO is the perfect lighting solution for fresh produce allowing grocery retailers to put light where it should be – on the merchandise, without the harmful effects of UV and IR. Independent studies show that EFO can greatly reduce spoilage caused by traditional light sources. These savings alone can create a payback of less than one year.
Maintenance is also greatly reduced as there are far fewer lamps to replace. Lamp life is 10,000 hours. By placing more light on the merchandise and less light in the aisle ways, retailers can provide much more effective lighting which enhances the customers’ shopping experience and impacts the bottom line.

University Of Idaho Tests Prove EFO prolongs fresh produce life.

Recent studies performed at the University of Idaho concluded that potatoes lit with EFO produced much less greening effect due to harmful rays associated with traditional light sources. EFO was tested against fluorescent, UV filtered fluorescent, ceramic metal halide and halogen light sources – all providing approximately the same light levels. The report concluded that the use of fiber optic lighting or a combination of fiber optic accent lighting and standard fluorescent lighting would help retard the progression of greening in the retail store yet highlight the commodity for consumer eye-appeal. Here is a great example of using light to create an environment.

The complex of buildings of Concordia University in Montreal rests on roughly 650,000 square feet. The architects KPMB and FSA and the consultants Pageau Morel and Dupras ledOux were able to use this platform to expose their vision on light to a great audience.

The innovations in the field of LED lighting are particularly surprising. The collaboration of an experienced installer, Robert Lanteigne, was of primary importance. In the Tunnel of Colours all attention is drawn towards the wall because of the changing environment providing a whole range of colours. A total of 346 of Magic Lite’s LED Mini Tubes were used to create the Tunnel of Colours. The tubes are controlled by 24 of the SRC-181 LED Controllers and 2 DMX programmable controllers. The atmosphere can easily be modified by means of several programmed scenes. The architect also used some of Magic Lite’s fiber optic lighting to uplight between the wall screens. Fiber Optics, which does not require any maintenance, meets the needs of the Concordia maintenance team.
