EFO Update

EFO – Not Just For Grocery Chains…

In the past, we have told you about our successes with Fiberstars’ EFO (Efficient Fiber Optics ) technology with the retail grocery trade. EFO is an ideal solution for this market since it allows grocery retailers to illuminate fresh produce without exposing it to any harmful UV or IR associated with traditional light sources.
We now have several casinos across Canada looking at using EFO for lighting over gaming tables and for general area lighting. EFO is a logical solution for casinos since it greatly reduces their maintenance costs while saving up to 80% on energy expenses. It also removes heat on the players at the gaming tables. We will keep you updated as the first trial installations get underway.

Spirit of Canada Update!

Construction of Spirit Of Canada heats up!

Progress continues on the construction of what is expected to be the world’s fastest 60’ racing yacht as Spirit Of Canada trudges forward in the quest to win the VELUX 5 OCEANS Around the World Alone Race. After being molded to exact specifications, both the hull and deck had to be baked in 80’ ovens to ensure the proper chemical bonding of the carbon fiber materials that form the structure and ensure the strength of the boat.

The massive hull and deck of this racing machine are now complete and ready for assembly – to be sealed together with the most hi-tech materials known to man. Capable of speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour, Spirit Of Canada will rocket Derek around the world in his quest to be the first Canadian sailor to win such a prestigious prize.

Considered to be the most grueling sporting event on the planet, this race will commence in October of this year. Skipper Derek Hatfield is optimistic about his ultimate victory as he takes on the world and brings Canada to the forefront of the world sailing community.

Spirit Of Canada will be launched early this summer in Cobourg, Ontario where the boat is currently under construction. Magic Lite will be taking some very lucky contest winners and guests aboard for the “sail of a lifetime” as Derek tunes up the boat for the race on Lake Ontario.

First Canadian Place - Fountain
Fiber Optic Application

Contribution by Barry Burton of Project Lighting Services

This Land Mark fountain at First Canadian Place in Toronto was in need of a new state of the art lighting system. One that was not susceptible to vandalism or potential liabilities of electrical shock to the public.

A Fiber Optic lighting system provided a cost effective and maintenance free solution for the customer.

Two outdoor rated 250W metal halide illuminators with colour wheels were used for this project – one master and one slave, synchronized for optimum colour change effects. The illuminators were installed at the top of each end of the fountain, hidden behind existing shrubs. Each illuminator had four runs of FSPT-75 fiber which ran down each side of the fountain wall then along the water trough to the fixtures.

The fixtures that were used were custom made specifically for this application. They were standard MR16 landscape fixtures that were modified and adapted for use with the fiber optic lighting system. Reflectors were included in each fixture to help increase and direct the light output.

The result, as illustrated in the above images, was a stunning water fountain which provided the customer with an energy efficient, maintenance free, and safe system that will be enjoyed for years to come.
