Magic Lite to Exhibit CARO Fiber Optic Lighting Systems At World Class Museum Shows

Magic Lite will be exhibiting its CARO Fiber Optic cabinet lighting system at both the Canadian Museums Association 61st Annual Conference in Victoria, British Columbia April 8-12, 2008 as well as at the American Association of Museums Annual Meeting and Museum Expo in Denver Colorado April 28-30, 2008. Magic Lite’s exclusive US CARO distributor Band Inc. will co exhibit at the Denver event.

CARO has become increasingly popular for museum showcase lighting because of its slim design and versatility. Each CARO bar incorporates a unique arrangement of fiber optics custom designed to provide precision lighting for each specific cabinet. CARO provides even illumination or spotlighting without the harmful effects of UV or IR radiation – just pure light into the showcase. Security is also preserved since one never has to open a showcase to change a lamp.

CARO has been successfully used around the world in museum showcase applications such as The Museum of Jewish History – New York, Museum Of Nature – Ottawa, The Smithsonian Institute – Washington, DC, The Dead Sea Scrolls and more.

Fiber Optic Ceiling Application

Jet Entreprises Trump Tower, New York

The owner of the condominium who lives in London England, flew to Montreal in his private jet to visit an old friend at Jean Carsley Design. During their visit, Susan Carlsey accepted the challenge to deliver a dream condo to her friend and client. Together with Groupe Lumitech, Susan handled the complete lighting project.

For the home theatre, Ron Tremblay of Groupe Lumitech suggested a custom made circular fiber optic ceiling. The client already had a fiber optic ceiling in one home and was convinced of it’s beauty for the new condo.

The biggest challenge of this project was the size of the ceiling – 9’ 11 1/2”. The condominium is located on the upper floors of a high-rise and was only accessible by elevator. The fiber optic ceiling had to be designed in a way so it could fit in the elevator. With their experience on creating large fiber optic ceilings, such as the one at the Casino of Montreal, Groupe Lumitech provided an exciting and beautiful design.

The ceiling was made up of four individual panels that easily fit into the elevator. Over 6,000’ of fiber was used to create the stardust effect and it all came together with 2 fiber optic illuminators. Once installed the look was seamless and dazzling.

IIDEX

On September 27th and 28th Magic Lite participated in the IIDEX NeoCon Canada event that was held in Toronto. This event is Canada’s largest exposition and conference for the design, construction and management of the built environment. Magic Lite was part of a feature section specifically for lighting. Visitors with an interest in lighting were drawn to this one feature area. Magic Lite’s display featured the new Xenon and LED product displays. Cove sections were installed on both side walls and products were installed in the cove to demonstrate their potential in such an application. Visitors were dazzled by the eye catching colour change LED products that washed the space in colour. Magic Lite personnel and local sales representatives were on hand to welcome visitors to the booth and to provide information. The show was a great success and Magic Lite has already reserved their location for the 2008 event!

Spirit of Canada Update

By Derek Hatfield

Spirit of Canada sits peacefully at the dock in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil after 4300 nm and a 17 and a half day delivery from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We arrived here around midnight local time on Tuesday Nov 13th and sat on the boat for more than an hour contemplating the trip. The Open 60 Spirit of Canada proved a lot more physically demanding than the Open 40 but the performance is very impressive. I am slowly coming to grips with how to run the boat by myself. Because of the grand prix design, the boat trim requires a lot more diligence to maintain maximum performance.

The sailing conditions proved straightforward with just a couple of unpleasant nights of upwind sailing with the boat slamming down the waves. It is hard to believe how noisy it can get below when you are trying to get a bit of sleep. The boat has also hit a best speed of 26kts with just main and jib so we are pleased with the performance.

As a Silver sponsor, Magic Lite looks forward to “our day” on the Spirit of Canada with Derek Hatfield and Tom Penton as First Mate.

We quickly settled well into a routine of watch keeping and maintenance work and the 17-day trip passed quickly. There have been a few expected breakages onboard, but the delivery and time on the water proved a great testing ground for the upcoming race to France. The plan at this point is to leave the boat in France for the winter months and then deliver it back to Toronto to fulfill the many sponsorship sailing events. This means that I will have more than 12,000 nm on the boat before the start of the Vendee Globe in November 2008.
